I truly believe that Nikon's flash system is superior to Canon's. I use an SB-800 and three SB-600 units and you can truly do some amazing things with these flashes.

your popup flash must fire to trip the remote sensor on the sb800. it's not strong enough to add directional flash to your subject, but just enough to trip the sensor.

The pop up flash fires a flash with IR-light that triggers the remote one. The pop-up flash will hardly be noticable in the picture when set to "--"

hi. please help. d700 set to commander mode, built in flash set to --, set channel 1.
sb800 set to remote, channel 1, group a.
my question is, why does my pop up flash fire as well as the remote unit. is this normal? i thought the pop up flash only served as a commander & did`t fire. thanks for any help.
