In order to be a successful photographer you must understand the key components of your camera as well as how to handle the different lighting situations you may find yourself in. In this lesson Brian explains how to choose the right lens for your shoot as well as how to effectively use both natural and artificial light.
The lens is the photographers window to the world. In this lesson you will learn about the different types of lenses available for you to use (normal lens, wide angle lens, telephoto lens, etc.) and the three attributes these lenses are rated on (focal length, speed, and lens angle of view).
The term photography comes from the ancient Greek language and literally translated means to write with light. This is appropriate because light is the essence of all photography and in this lesson you will learn how to properly use outdoor light in order to achieve stunning and naturally lit photos.
You can also create your own light by using a flash unit with your camera. This lesson explains the importance of using the x sync setting when using a flash, when to use a flash depending on the distance of your subject, as well as the best uses for a flash indoors.
With the advent of inexpensive cameras, the world of photography was opened up to millions of image makers. This lesson is excerpted from the DVD Learn Photography, Film & Digital, which is an excellent resource for those looking to learn the fundamentals of photography. It is the fourth lesson cut from the DVD and includes Chapters 10, 11, and 12 (on Camera Lenses, Daylight Photography, and Flash Photography).
