Sami Laplanders Instrumental joik

A characteristic feature of Sami musical tradition is the singing of joik. Joiks are traditionally sung a cappella, usually sung slowly and deep in the throat with apparent emotional content of sorrow or anger. Joiks can be dedicated to animals and birds in nature, to special people or special occasions, and they can be joyous, sad or melancholic. Christian missionaries and priests regarded these as "songs of the Devil". In recent years, musical instruments frequently accompany joiks.

The flute was made by mr. Hanssen himself from a cane plant that grows in the wild in north Norway.

Yes, unfortunately for the Lakota they stole a lot of it from the Kiowa and others as they got hold of horses and notions of empire from the white man and used them to expand their territories west to follow the buffalo. The sami always followed the reindeer all over Scandinavia and elsewhere in the north, and had to back into herding/husbandry when Nordic nationalities and Christian crusades against native religion emerged that encroached onto their free ranging lifestyle to "civilize" them.
