Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida was a Spanish painter, born in Valencia, who excelled in the painting of portraits, landscapes, and monumental works of social and historical themes. His most typical works are characterized by a dexterous representation of the people and landscape under the sunlight of his native land.

I have been enamored of his work since I was in art school (1989). His style reminds me of Robert Henri (looseness with brush in some pieces) and John Singer Sargent (the way he captures the lushness of light, especially in his seascapes), and currently with NY artist, Michael de Brito. de Brito's work, which began pretty tight and contolled, has changed to a loose but totally light capturing style. All of their work, Sorolla, Sargent and De Brito, are breathtaking to behold.
