Recently, world flyfishing expert Philip Rowly produced two TV shows, dubbing the Mat-Su the Stillwater Fishing Capital of Alaska. Rowley, whose "The New Fly Fisher" reaches 90 million households, said he was impressed with these productive lakes because they are located so close together and their bounty is mostly unnoticed.

The bite is on! Welcome to the Stillwater Fishing Capital of Alaska. The Matanuska-Susitna Borough holds an impressive concentration of quality waters and diversity of species. There are over 80 lakes - wild and stocked - all within an hour's drive. Within six minutes you can hop to new lakes and catch a different experience: semi-remote lakes, hike-in lakes, drive-to lakes. Rainbow trout, arctic char, grayling, land-locked Coho are swimming around here getting as big as the lakes will let them.
