Initiated on September 5, 1882 in New York City, Congress passed an act in 1894 declaring the first Monday in September of each year a national legal holiday. On this day we pay homage to the millions of people who make this country an industry leader. Large corporations and small shops. Times have been tough, but the indomitable spirit of our fellow countrymen and women will persist. Always have, always will. San Diego is home to numerous corporations who keep thousands of citizens in the workforce. Understandable, the county and military are huge employers in our town, but a few other names will ring a bell.
