Portland, Oregon -- a city known for its many bridges -- is the host site for the first bi-national convention of Filipino American chambers of commerce. The event, themed "Bridging the River of Change," is presented by the Federation of Philippine American Chambers of Commerce (FPACC).
FPACC, a national organization of 42 chapters with a network of 5,000 companies under its belt, has held annual conferences and conventions since 1995.
The historic Portland event, to be held August 18 through 20, 2011 at the Portland Hilton, is expected to draw hundreds of participants from across the U.S. as well as dignitaries and representatives from both private and public sectors in the Philippines.
One of the many advantages to hosting the event in Portland is the city's reputation for being the savvy shopper's shopping mecca because Oregon does not have a sales tax. Portland is also famous for its many beautiful tourist attractions, historic landmarks, international cuisine, dozens of breweries, and the quirky styles and practices of its residents. Travel Portland, the city's tourism arm, has already mobilized its resources to ensure the event is a success and has promised to provide every attendee a gift bag full of coupons and freebies from well-known Portland establishments.
The three-day conference includes numerous workshops featuring national speakers, a gala dinner, a hospitality room with Filipino delicacies. A Sunday sightseeing tour of Portland attractions is also offered to attendees as an optional package.
The Philippine American Chamber of Commerce of Oregon (PACCO), FPACC's Oregon chapter, is spearheading the event and has already received support from the Oregon Governor's Office, the City of Portland Mayor's Office, the Philippine Department of Trade & Industry (DTI), and the Philippine Department of Tourism.
As the event's theme suggests, the 2011 convention will focus on strategies for success in our ever-changing economic climate and how sustainable practices can play a major role.

Announcing - One More Reason to Join Portland
The U.S Department of Commerce' International Trade Administration (ITA) will give an overview of the Philippine Partnership for Growth (PFG)and its joint action plan to address the improvement of tax revenue collection and good governance.
Its goal to help the Philippines become a member of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement by providing technical assistance, will hopefully also help us bridge unprecedented US-Philippines binational trade ties.
ITA will also brief the attendees on the following selected growth sectors of the Philippine Economy - agribusiness; information technology; tourism; logistics and mining. They will explain to us their mission to support these growth sectors through ITA sponsorships of delegations of international buyers from the Philippines to ITA trade fairs in the U.S.A. They will be bringing with them, their partner for the trade fairs from the Millennium Challenge Corporation.
DO NOT MISS THE CHANCE TO PARTICIPATE. PLEASE RECRUIT AT LEAST 10 COMPANIES IN YOUR CHAPTER TO JOIN US IN PORTLAND. We will also be canvassing qualified candidates to run for our very important offices in the next election, to be announced later.
We must prepare to negotiate a partnership with ITA for the buyers trade fairs in the different cities. Our partners in the Philippines expect much from us. Your support and presence in Portland is vital to this goal!
