Daniel Plym, Director of Video Publishing at Buzzine.com , gave us a crash course on how he uses his 5D for red carpet shoots. He is a one man operation and breaks down how he combines the 5D with a Zoom audio recorder, Sennheiser Wireless microphone, Pluraleyes software and Final Cut to capture clean audio. This video was used in our webcast Life Without Timecode (Audio for HDSLR) http://bit.ly/du0XUu and will also be featured in our upcoming Canon EOS Moving Image Workshop http://bit.ly/bAKLg0

  • What do you do for TC (Time Code)? I use a similar ENG system for our TV show, but I haven't found a good solution to make the clips ready for transcribing with Time Code. Any suggestions?

  • @fotoreflection No we have the same issue but no solution yet.

  • Im looking to buy either a wireless system or digital recorder. Can you tell me why are you using the wireless receiver into the recorder instead of just using the wireless receiver directly to the camera?

  • @andrewford80 That's it! Someone told me about an audio mixer before but I wasn't sure of how it works or if it output to a recorder. Thank you ! Now I know what equipment I need to get. :)

  • @Custom09 Sounds like you need a mixer of some sort to bring all those channels in, mix accurately and then output to some kind of recorder. Be it direct to your camera or a sound recorder.

  • @andrewford80 Ah I see. thanks. I'm actually trying to mic several people (10) at once with lapel/lav mics and wondered if I needed some kind of equipment that could plug in each mic.

  • @Custom09 Only if you want to use a wireless mic. Otherwise you just run the cable from the mic straight in to the recorder.

  • Do I need a receiver? I thought the recorder was all that was needed. What is the name of the receiver and how is it useful?

  • @fotoreflection Thats a great question to ask.

  • Hi,

your presentation is the most professional I ever seen - Thanks!

That's why I believe you can help me out with my problem:

I just bought the Sennheiser G2 and the problem is that the signal from the receiver goes only to the left channel.

My seller is trying to convince me that this is normal behavior, because Sennheiser is a MONO system.

Is it normal behavior? Or the receiver is defective?

The details of my setup are here:

    Please answer!

  • @Weitzmanphoto yeh but then you still have the problem of AGC and you cant monitor your mics

  • that was great very handy, what that lens sitting on your 5D it's huge, 85mm? if so that's some expensive glass....oh well I can dream. thanks for a great tutorial
