"Elijah Rock", an old spiritual most famously recorded by Mahalia Jackson. Different angle on this one, and I was able to do some things with the sound to the point where it's actually pretty good in my opinion. Nancy opens up on this one and really nails it. Zach has a great riveted ride that he uses to great effect and Jamie's bass... groove is much more audible in this track. I never would have had the band try this track if I hadn't heard Bourbon Jones do it one early Sunday morning at the Blue Cafe in Long Beach. We're all sitting in the sun outdoors on the patio, nursing mimosa's and tequila sunrises around 11AM with Bourbon Jones laying down some really incredible music including their cover of "Elijah Rock". With Hodges (Tom Waits, Elvis Costello and many many more) on drums and Barmosca on upright bass and vocals all running through a vintage Ampex PA sounding dark and raspy the vibe was incredible. So I thought we'd do our version... here it is. Hope you all like it. More later...
