The Central Islip High School Concert Choir under the direction of John Anthony, performs the last two movements of THE PEACEABLE KINGDOM by Randall Thompson (Have Ye Not Known/Ye Shall Have a Song) at the 5th Annual High School Choral Festival at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College in Flushing, NY.
@576969sbunivedu I see what you mean, but I imagined people blaring "HAAAAVE YEEE NOOOOOT KNOOOOOOOOOWN" with vibrato and immediately started laughing out loud.
i couldn't agree more, high school & college choir were undoubtedly some of the most sublime moments of my life also. Both were great choirs, and the harmonies created...especially with Randall Thompson works...were moments I can never forget. Pity so long ago, but still vivld. Sublime is definitely the word. Thanks for the memories !
My college choir (Jamestown College) did this song when I was in school - we were a very good choir. Standing in the choir, it was one of my life's most sublime experiences.
There are not enough words to describe them, and the harmony is just to die for beautiful, you can even hear each distinct part too. Just amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Wow. Fantastic sound! I think most collegiate level choruses would be lucky this much talent. Be careful not to use too much straight-tone... it doesn't sound natural, isn't good for the voice and will EASILY cause the pitch to sag. (ESPECIALLY sopranos...) Vibrato is natural and should be restricted as little as possible. Basses and altos were rockin'! Wonderful interpretation.
Wow! This is a choir from ONE HS? Choral music is still alive! A great performance. I'm sure the dynamics were much greater live-you can hear the volume compression in the recording. I did this in a HS festival chorus from at least 5 states in 1961 and can still remember walking in late to the 1st rehearsal and hearing that long crescendo. This performance shows what a great conductor can do with a group of good singers who've memorized their music. He had every eye.
Un-blasted-believable from a high school choir. Way to go, Director and singers!!!
