When music becomes art - the rarest thing now when even the instruments are replaced by computer technology - you nevertheless instantly recognise those real gems from earlier days; like gold they stand every test of time brilliantly, and that even after many, many years manage to give you those goosebumps - that´s when you know this is music for a lifetime; the sign of a very great masterpiece.

My pal in college played this entire album for me, (a drummer). They blew me out of the water, vocals, drums, keybrds and lyrics. Next day got CD, WELL WORTH IT.

This album was big loud and Simple Minds at their best. This was what signed me up. Jim used to project his voice back then. Now he does a lazy mumble.

Mel Gaynor's snare drum is so epic on this album. This band was on fire when Once Upon a Time came out. What a great time to be young...

  • sibeliandrift

People used to mean what they were singing. These days every wants to do the same thing but doesn't know how because they don't believe in anything, least of all themselves... And they get up on stage, trying to capture the feeling and they do this by trying really really really hard to *look* as if they mean what they're singing. It's very fashionable to look heartfelt and very very unfashionable to actually *be* heartfelt.
