An excerpt from the Michael Ajakwe musical "You're All I Need To Get By: The Marvin Gaye/Tammi Terrell Story". From the Los Angeles production staged April 1, 2002 at Stage 52. Marvin Gaye (William L. Johnson), Tammi Terrell (Ashley Ta'Mar Davis), Background singers a.k.a. The Andantes (L to R): Pamela Walker, Caren Handley, Sy Smith, Sonja Maia Harper. The Funk Bros: Scott "Bugs" Allen (bass/musical director), Keith "Beetle" Price (drums), Earl Harris (guitar), Kenny Payne (piano/keyboards). In this scene that leads to the end of Act One, Tammi has to perform live with Marvin for the first time and is terrified in front of what she perceives as a hostile audience. Ever the pro and unwilling to disappoint his fans, Marvin goes out without her. Coaxing her from the stage, Marvin gives her the confidence to overcome her nervous jitters, come out and perform the duet with him. And she does and the audience loves her. [The cool wardrobe is by costumer Tuesday Conner of Los Angeles]

  • Is this musical available to purchase on DVD?

  • Great !!!

  • The singing is not bad at all. Tammy was coy, but not shy. Marvin was the more reluctant one, but smooth in his moves. Keep exploring the material, the recordings and videos, and then make them your own by forgetting about them. Best wishes.

  • Awesome job!!!..who cares if you tricked us?? I certainly don't! At least you did really sound great! Awesome!!

  • The trick is beside the point, who ever created this did not know much about the two artist because Thomasina Montgomery was not a shy girl, Marvin Gaye was stage shy not Tammi.

  • I still like it !!! very very nice !

  • i love this video. brings back good memories of mama!

  • It was a tricky ploy, to get us to watch this video; but it worked. You guys did a good job.

  • If you get a chance...check out R Kelly song "Love is"...it really sounds like Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell if they were alive recording new materal...But I think these 2 did a excellent job! Keep up the good work!
