@keyboardjeff Petrol and Gas are the same thing. Otto cycle. Diesel is diffrent. Wikipedia will explain everything.

@BanditDragoon true, but Torque is the measure of an engines ability to do Work. The 4 banger may have @150pound feet...this has about 8-10,000.
-
Is there any difference between a diesel, a petrol and a gas engine works? Because I'd like to know. The only difference I know is the fuel.
-
@BanditDragoon but while a supercharcged flat four can maybe make it 200-250k miles before a rebuild, some of these engines have run at full throttle for over 30+ years without shutting down.
-
and to think you can now get the same 200 horsepower from a turbo charged flat 4 engine O.o
-
I forget the fule consumption, but I do know it is like 2million cubic inch displacement.
-
There is an easy way to think about all this. Torque is a measure of power at a given instant in time. You can have 800lb/ft of torque at 0rpm. You could have a million even, and that would = 0 horse power. The reason an increase in rpm gives an increase in hp is essentially you are able to pump more fuel through it in a given amount of time, and thus, more power. Effeincy of course means that hp number vaires with rpm.

That is a hit and miss engine. that is what is kind of crazy about it.
-
any figures as to fuel consumption?

i wonder how much them rod bearings would cost ??? i know u would have to have them made :) but very cool engine :) 5 *
looks easy to loose an arm or two in that machine

It's certainly NOT idiot proof.

what's it used for?
ztwntyn8 4 years ago
It was used to pump water near Riverside, Calif. There were two of these engines setting side by side each pumping 2000 Gal. per minute over a 400 foot high hill, 8 miles into 7,500 acres of citrus orchards in Riverside County.
