Annette Hanshaw sings "If You Want the Rainbow (You Must Have the Rain) recorded in New York City on October 19, 1928. Released on Columbia Records' labels Diva 2766G and Harmony 966H.
For a beautiful version of this song brilliantly set to a cartoon movie by Nina Paley, See Sita Sings The Blues-If You Want the Rainbow on YT.

  • It's a beautiful song, and I heard it first from Sita Sings the Blues. It's also a brilliant animation.

  • This was the kind of music to which my Irish immigrant family became so fond as to defy segregation and make regular trips to Preservation Hall on St. Peter's, bearing baskets of food and drinks for the musicians.

It's the music that matters and this is simply delightful.

  • @crazy4sian same here, two awesome things coexisting

  • Thanks for commenting on my Lee Morse version of the same song. Both Annette and Lee were wonderful performers, both special in their unique styles. It should be noted that the music was written by Oscar Levant, a pianist, composer and close friend of George Gershwin.

  • Sweet

  • Sita Sings the Blues! Yay!
