Energy Promo Extract

A recent pilot for an energy efficiency drive was filmed by Private Universe Productions for a national client, derived from a brief.




The creative team and I decided a good approach would be to create a short in the social realism genre ('docu-drama') script, showing the implications of a power cut on citizens. This had a popular entertainment value, whilst, at the same time, still containing factual information which is disseminated to the viewer.

The programme was delivered by interviewing the cast, in character, in the 'real' world after their acting parts. This was also achieved by using scientific facts (as required by the client).

Before I trained as a writer & director, I was a geographer so I still have knowledge of energy and its implications on human activity as a whole, so this proved useful.

Television personality and antique expert Mr. David Barby, whose notable appearances include the BBC show Flog It! and Bargain Hunt, amongst others.

Mr Barby played himself in a spoof antique sketch and was interviewed in a more serious role afterwards about energy conservation(!).
