Social economy enterprises are private businesses which have been providing innovative responses to social needs that have emerged over the course of history. Social economy includes cooperatives, mutual societies, associations, foundations and other enterprises and organisations that share the founding values of social economy, such as the defence of the principles of solidarity and the general interest, management autonomy and independence with regard to public authorities, voluntary and open membership and the primacy of the individual and social objectives.
