On Thursday, cyclists from the London Cycling Campaign (LCC) held a demonstration at St Pancras against Camden Council's failure to cater for cycle access to the new station. Thanks to negotiations by CTC, two of the key demands of the campaigners have been met by Network Rail and Eurostar. These were for better cycle parking there and better cycle carriage on international trains. Getting there by bike is still a little tricky, and LCC are now focusing on getting better access to the station.

The majority of air traffic the 3rd runway is projected to handle will be short haul - including flights to Manchester, Glasgow and Paris. As far as BA and BAA are concerned, this is about creating new demand to increase profits, not meeting existing demand.

Well, I'll stop being pedantic and make a serious point. Opening a new Eurostar station and saying that this means there's no need for a third runway is all well and good - if you're going to Brussels or Paris. If you're going to New York or Tokyo then what use is the Eurostar?
