Acknowledges how painstaking, how perpetual & how precious is the task of upholding the worth & dignity of every human being. The Tibetan Buddhist tradition of creating sand paintings to ritually heal the world provides an excellent metaphor for this. Some of the sand mandalas in this video were created by monks from Drepung Loseling Monastery & from Gyoto Tantric University; also included are mandala paintings by lay artists inspired by the monks' tradition. Original music by composer-pianist Phyllis Cole-Dai, www.phylliscoledai.com.

  • remaining indifferent would seem inhuman I wonder what is the percentage of humans among the population of this planet?

  • interesting question--PCD

  • It is crazy to think that few Tibetan monks are creating peace in a remote monastery. The word endlessly captured my attention. Does it mean that peace will never win? Or the victory will come at the end of time? Under such circumstances only the bravest will continue fighting!

  • REPLY 1: Thanks for your comment. I'd like to reply to a number of points you raised. First of all, the monks do this in public places around the world, not just cloistered in a monastery. Second, their work is a sacrament, a sacred act that both represents and inspires the work of peacemaking. And who knows? At an energetic level, it may also produce peace, at least in the hearts and minds of those who bear witness to their work, from where it can ripple out endlessly....

    I continue in (2)--

  • REPLY 2: About your comment on "endlessly...." Who am I to say, but I do believe that the struggle for peace, of whatever sort--personal, familial, cultural, political, global, environmental--is indeed endless. It's part of the nature of life. Personally, I wage peace not because I believe in some ultimate victory but because in a particular circumstance where I observe or experience violence, I can't NOT wage peace. Either joining the violence or remaining indifferent would seem inhuman.

  • There are no words to express the beauty of the Mandalas. Your musical interpretation is sublime! Thank you so much for sharing.

  • I appreciate your feedback. And yes, the mandalas are beautiful, aren't they? A real testament to the skill of their creators.

  • @abejon2002...It is inappropriate at this current moment to shed our emotions. Carbon will meld with silicon, in time our hearts will beat as rhythmically as an atomic clock. All of them..........Its what we are moving toward. The technologically enabled ubermensch.
