Stock ZX2 0-60 Acceleration

This is a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2. It's bone stock, I just got it last week.

I was reading in some forums that the stock 0-60 is 7-8sec, but I keep getting 9-10sec. Perhaps my shifting has to improve.

Any suggestions welcome, and sorry for the poor quality of my camera phone.

Well, this car is 10 years old, and it was fast back then. It's no use comparing it to today's technology. Even though today it still is as fast and maybe even faster than some cars on the road. Go buy yourself a 1 liter engine, then come back talk trash about my ford.

I found with my zx2 that its not always good to go up to redline with first gear. Second gear has much better acceleration, so go up to redline in second and you should be almost at 60 by then.

i have a 99 zx2 although i cant say i've driven it yet cuz im only 16 and i need to buy its tires with my own money and fix the windshield and repaint it and fix a whole shitload of stuff but what i can say is that i love it, nice car man

ive done a little work on my zx2 i can redline second gear at around 70 and 3rd at 100

I never said that I don't like them. I used to have one. It was a great car for daily driving, but the price:performance ratio is so shitty that it's pointless to try to make them at all fast. Also, I don't really like R8's. I have no idea where you came to that conclusion. I mean, they're nice cars and all, but supercars generally aren't my cup of tea.

@razrg3 its a ford with a mazda motor, and actually it can out run a lot of other 4 cylinder cars stock to stock. now if you are comparing this car to the zr1 then ya i guess you could say its slow but how many of us can afford a car like that. so just stop with the troll attitude.
