  • Jim McCarty (from Detroit, MI) was one of the great guitarists, whether you want to call his music blues, blues-rock, punk-rock or whatever. His playing really made the original Detroit Wheels a band to be reckoned with. Too bad there isn't a greater variety of videos of him.

  • Was?

  • who?

  • Is this the guy who was in mitch ryder and the detriot wheels?

  • who?

  • nothing is wrong with playing the blues like a white man ,he plays the same covers of the blues everywere he plays,he is good no dought

  • Who else you think is good?

  • Chuckie: I was cool when I was born, i don't have to try. Jackass

I grew up in Royal Oak before I moved to sfld, that's where I learned quick about guetto fab chumps like you and your mother, punkass! Also lived at Trumbull and Warren, on Avery st. to solidify my views, boy. ps- you might need your head checked.

  • I read somewhere that McCarty's band, Cactus, was a big influence to Led Zeppelin. Truly one of the most underrated guitarists to come from the Detroit area.

  • Around 1966 when I was about 15 years old and saw Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels in Central Park NYC. I liked their hit record, “Jenny Take a Ride”, and was a garage band guitar player myself, but that unbelievable performance changed my life. I had never heard guitar played that way before. The next day I was telling everybody who would listen about McCarty's phenomenal playing, as if I were spreading the gospel. I am glad to see that others appreciate it as I do.

  • Why this guy is not mentioned with all the other greats of his era baffles me. His Mitch Ryder work was groundbreaking. His Cactus stuff was unreal. Has to be THE most underrated guitarist of all time!

  • The Best Blues Rock guitarist in the world today, full stop!

  • I'm from Detroit, I'm 59 now, and grew up listening to Jim "Slim" McCarty, when he was with Mitch Ryder. I play guitar, and some how his playing always jumped out at me. I got to know him back in the Rockets days. He had a huge blues record collection.

He told me he once went to a club party in L.A. in the early '80s. He says some kid comes up to him as says, Jim you're a big influence on me. So Jim replies, who are you? So Jim says the kid answers, "I'm Eddie Van Halen!"

  • @stareman --Not "was," IS...Catch him with THE ROCKETS 11-27-10 at the Detroit Filmore

  • @stareman --McCarty still IS one of the greatest. If you happen to have a physical presence on this planet on November 27, 2010, get to the MotorCity and catch THE ROCKETS at the Detroit Filmore. Better get tickets ASAP--This is THE ROCKETS!!!

  • Jim McCarty is one of the greatest players of that era and did not get the attention he deserved. Will always mention him when talking about great players from the 60's & 70's.

  • listen to the old mitch ryder stuff and you'll hear Jim's killer riffage in the background...

  • You are watching a man fulfilling his life!
