The three major disadvantages holding back acceptance of electric cars could be addressed by one simple change: The car owner not owning the battery. For more details, see http://www.santa-coloma.net/electric_car/electric_car.html

  • OR you could have an extra batt. in the trunk being charged by two alternators being turned by two propellers sticking up and being turned by the rushing wind as you go down the road,LOL

  • @zeno57 Give that a try and let me know how it works out.

  • @proto57 That was really a joke. What would happen is the car would soon run our of juice. There is no perpetual motion car..there were eletric cars in the early 1900s,,,I think the rambler started as one.

  • @zeno57 I realized it was a joke.. I was kidding back at you. By the way, this idea, in this video, has been adopted by a new car company. They have the same system of replaceable batteries, but they install and remove them through the bottom, with a lift, rather than through the rocker panel as I suggest.

  • Go watch the movie: Who killed the electric car? it go all the real information of this car of how the car go his disvantage(almost none) and all advantage

  • I saw the movie, Shaolin. It does have much information, but it does show both the disadvantages and advantages of electric, and some other systems. By the way, I was a road crew worker in the 90's, and saw an EV-1 on the road. Very wonderful design.

  • It doesn't matter, you will burn FUEL any way you do it. Electric cars are useless.

  • Shaolin: Well that sounds ideal: Two hours charge, and 80 miles per charge. But I'm not sure of any car that can do this yet. Can you give us the name? And solar panels produce far too little current in one car space to fill the needs of one car. But I agree, when they can, it will be wonderful. No need for the "lie!!!" comment, though...

  • LIE!!!! Electric car take two hour to rechg and they can go for over 80mil per charge. The technologists is getting better every passing day, that mean in the future the battery will get cheaper and last longer. There is solar energy, and they can make solar panel station in a parking or on the car owner rooftop to fill up the demand it will produce. We don't need to burn coal to make more energy. You don't need to go to a station to get a new battery rechg, you can plug the car in your home.

  • I agree that electrics in general are not the best way to go. I think fuel cells hold more promise. But I don't agree about ethanol as fuel... unless I misunderstand, converting biomass to ethanol takes more energy than you get from it... making it less efficient than other fuels. Correct me if I'm wrong...
