I always wanted to try the infamous poisonous blowfish, FUGU. So during my last trip to Tokyo, my friends were gracious enough to take me for a full course meal at one of the finest fugu resurants in Tokyo. Unfortunately for me, it was a busy night and the cook was rushed and, well, I died!

  • Fugu is "one of those things that if you have a once -in-a-lifetime chance to try..... And don't, you end up retesting for the rest of your life!" At age 59, I am willing to try those things interest me and take a small risk (not a big one) for the experience! We were at one of the best fugu restaurants in Tokyo that night,so the small risk was far smaller in that calibre of a restaurants. At about $150 PER PERSON for the seven ( I think) course meal, is was for me, something afford once!!

  • The video was supposed to show a "typical" loud American joking around at what for us is a highly unusual meal. So I suppose it IS a joke. The serious comments about Fugu are not however. It can be deadly.

The meal that night was so well prepared that none of the eight of us felt even a slight numbness in our mouths, a common effect with a Fugu dinner. It was an absolutely delightful experience and perhaps my fondest memory of all my trips to Japan!
