That thought did not occur to me and I thank you for pointing it out. Interesting idea! Jacob was God's choice and God was with him, apart from that he was just as much a sinner as any other human being.

I think there are consequences to all the things we do that are wrong, even if it is just Jacob living in terror of Esau during the 20 years he spent with Laban. However we know that God was in all of this because God had told Rebecca befor their births that the older would serve the younger.
