At what point does a piece go from blues to bluesy? From planned/wirtten to Improvisation. If they improvised in some key other than the "background" bass notes, then they would sound horrible! I am not exactly sure why everyone is saying that this isn't improv? I guess they do this routine every night and it is exactly the same? (unfortunately no longer) It must have some other meaning in the commenter's countries...

Well, even technically, that is not correct. AND, "A blues" doesn't quite capture the sense of what all has fallen under "THE blues" over the last 110 years. Yup even under a "12-bar blues"!
