Patrick M.J. Hutton, MD | JOI Sports Medicine Jacksonville

After internship, Dr. Hutton was designated a Naval Flight Surgeon and served aboard the USS Saratoga with Carrier Air Wing Three at NAS, Cecil Field, FL. He then completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, VA. Following an arthroscopic surgery fellowship under Dr. Richard Caspari in Richmond, VA, CDR Hutton served as Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at Naval Hospital Jacksonville. Leaving active duty in 1985, to establish his private practice in Orange Park, he continued his Navy affiliation as a reservist serving with Carrier Air Wing 20 and the Fourth Marine Aircraft Wing. As the Wing Surgeon, he was the senior Naval Flight Surgeon for all Marine Corps Reserve Aviation nationwide. He retired as a Captain in the U.S. Navy after 26 years of service.

Upon leaving active duty and establishing his private practice, Dr. Hutton became a patient and physician advocate through his involvement in organized medicine. He has served on numerous councils and committees on state and national levels. He is a Past President of the Clay County Medical Society and the Florida Medical Association, and he is the current President of the Florida Orthopaedic Society. Nationally, he is serving on the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Board of Councilors and the AAOS Diversity Advisory Board.

While continuing his active orthopaedic practice, he earned an MBA with a concentration in healthcare from Auburn University. In addition to his orthopaedic practice, he is an active volunteer in community and parish activities. His hobbies include outdoor photography, cooking and ballroom dancing. He and his wife, Marge, will soon be celebrating 35 years of marriage. Their daughter, Eileen, is a PhD candidate in Fine Arts at Burren College of Art in Ireland.
