Taken from the back cover of "The First Sixty Years" DVD:
This DVD documents the inspiring story behind Australia's largest guitar manufacturing company. Bill May was just 17 years old when he built his first guitar. He was a craftsman, musician and a visionary and, thanks to archival footage, Bill can tell us his story.

The story begins in Melbourne's northern suburbs in 1946, when Bill with his wife Vera, founded the Maton Guitar Company. In the years that followed, the popularity of this Australian-made guitar, saw the company grow from a dusty workshop into a thriving business, producing one of the worlds most sought-after guitars.

We follow raw timber on its journey from the Australian forest to the craftsmen, then from the craftsmen, to the musician. You'll see testimonials and performances from some of Australia's most respected musicians -- including an in-depth interview with the master "Tommy Emmanuel" who tells us about his life long love affair with Maton guitars.

With guitarists all over the world seeking out the unique "May" tone, Maton Guitars earned a reputation as one of the world's finest, fulfilling Bill May's dream and continuing his legacy.

Maton Guitars remains a family-owned, Australian company and is now firmly established internationally, as a quality guitar maker.
