This is my first YouTube video and it was made as an entry into the AWAITS. A quick apology first about the quality of the video, as I do not yet have a video camera or webcam it was shot by stitching together several 15 second silent movies taken with a borrow digital camera, lol. The audio track was recorded seperately. And as you might be able to hear, my voice is a little shaky in parts as I have the flu at the moment ;)

The background music is called "Ocean" by the John Butler Trio.

Thanks for watching! I had lots of fun making it =)

N.B. The Latin Quote subtitle is hard to read so I'll write it here too. It read: "While I am sane I shall compare nothing to the joy of a friend".

  • Here is a Rennaisance Lady...Boundaries of continents, distances or Language cannot hold you any longer from tasting our small planet. Time to open your wings like your mind and fly around our World...Fly Jennifer...Fly !

  • @SirAbraxas Thank you! ^^

  • Hello, dear lady. I just couldn't help but satisfy my curiosity by taking a peek into your past. For those with many a post, watching their first video can often be quite interesting and even revealing. The comments often reflect what would seem in even so short a time, a bygone era...at least for YT. So, three years after the fact, thank you for sharing this with me.

  • oh my, it is funny returning here and watching myself from so long ago. It really is a little glance into recent history :) I can only imagine what it will be like seeing this in another few years ;)

  • Dear RavenOfPoe. True enough, you are both interested and talented in language studies. But please don't overlook the much greater interest and talent of yours: Your ability to reach out and connect with people through a variety of interesting, entertaining, touching, and educational Videos! You have an amazing ability to choose unusual subjects, and make a Video about them that immediately engages the interest and curiosity of others! I see that as by far, your greatest talent-no, genius!

  • Thank you so much Brian! It can be hard for one to see themselves from an outside perspective enough to notice one's own talents, often we need them pointed out by others =) Thank you again!

  • I see we share a fascination with foreign languages :)

  • Hi Jen! :) I found it. Thanks for helping me not be lazy. Of course, I searched to see if I had commented. I had. And you left a very nice response in return. I was kind of touched by the realization that we have become friends so long. Watching this video and reading the comments after all this time, struck a sentimental note in me. :o) It was like pulling out my old school Yearbook and seeing what an old friend wrote way back when.

  • Das war also die Flasche die du in den YouTube Ozean geworfen hast...Nun erinnere ich mich auch das du mal auf einen meiner Zungenzerbrecher geantwortet hattest.

I totally agree with your statement that with each new language you also learn a new way of thinking.

Happy new year...and have fun studying:-)

  • Had to see this again... Your thought-life has changed very little. Your dreams and aspirations are simply further in the journey which dreams have the potential to take.

  • Yay for Finnish! ^^

  • I can't believe I don't see a comment of me on this video, which clearly impressed me so much back then that it won first prize in the AWAITS competition.

If indeed, you did invest your prize money in a camera, I feel the world has profited from it.

And look at you now at over 1000 subscribers. People all over the world watch your videos. Oh, how far you've come.

  • Very cute! Hey, I didn't know there was a cash prize for this! Congratulations (OK, so belatedly) for winning!

  • How ironic, I had my t.v on when I was watching your video... I drifted off and started to think about what you were saying then I heard Ocean in the background until I finally noticed JBT were playing on my t.v. lol well I thought it was funny..

Cool video. I like the way it was directed. Have you seen Almost Famous? It reminded me of that, the way you shot yourself writing. Cheers :)

  • Yes, it is one of the things I find most exciting about learning a new language. Discovering those new words, and entirely new concepts and ways of looking at things =)

  • You are so right about words that exist in some languages, but don't exist in your "native" one. That was a really good thought!

  • You made me smile ;) Thank you Nate!

  • I know this may sound cheesy... But I think you are wonderful.

  • Thank you millancad! =)

  • Id write you something in Latin (I took it for three years), but Im too tired to form sentence correctly! Good luck on all of your languages, it sounds fun.

  • The answer to that will hopefully be a video in itself one day in the future, hehe ;)

  • that it is, good luck on your languages, youre an inspiration to us all

  • Hauska tavata sinutkin! Why on earth have you decided to study Finnish?

  • You're welcome! Also, I should warn you... once you are a big star on YouTube, I will take credit for inspriring you to make videos ;)

  • Thank you Jon! And also thank you so much for sponsoring the competition. Competitions like these really bring life to YouTube =)
