@Guitarvammer Friend, I'm afraid I can't let this comment go by. There is absolutely no evidence that celibacy in itself contributes to child sex abuse. All the studies show that there was a spike in this terrible behavior in the seventies and early eighties of the last century. If celibacy were the main cause, we should expect to see child sex abuse up and down the centuries in great numbers. You would be on much firmer ground seeing a correlation between marriage and child sex abuse.

Happy 24th anniversary of priesthood. May God bless you with many more.

With all do respect, Churches are NOT being burned down? Priests are not being murdered??? What about Nigeria? There was a Bishop in Turkey bloodied to death in his own home just a couple years ago, there are many more. The increasing fear and hate that's being disseminated against the Church worldwide is the seed of violence. There are going to be many, many more martyrs to come... Possibly in our very own lifetime.

@Bulloxe4 Well said.

@wordonfirevideo As a married non child abusing man I am curious as to why you would make this comment Father? We do know that many of the victims of frustrated priests and other church folk over many decades have never come forward. Also there is the phenomenon of moving abusers around to avoid their conviction. Hence many were never caught. Really Father, you simply cannot bismurch marriage with the ills of the Catholic Church. You are potentially insulting the majority of your flock.

@Guitarvammer Hmmmm. Isn't Jerry Sandusky married? Looks like your equation is incorrect.

Yes, people you listed were on numerous occasions rude and insulting to religion and religious people even to a point when their activities can be considered smear campaigns.
But I have never seen them engage in violence.
The bottom line is, they're promoting a world view conflicting with your own, based on things much different then things you base religion on, and you call this an attack.
I guess it is a form of cultural attack, but you make it sound like they're nazis.

@Bulloxe4 Come on, man, that's way too simplistic. No sensible person quarrels with honest questions; but do you really think that Christopher Hitchens, Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Bill Maher and their thousands of disciples are just "posing questions?"

The priesthood is not under attack. Priests are not being murdered, churches are not being burned down.
The only thing that has happen is that science became popularised, media became more accessible and free then ever largly because of the internet, and people started questioning faith and religion.
Since when does QUESTIONING constitute an attack?
Thank you, Father! I have been praying more seriously about the priesthood during this last year of college, and I am just beginning formal discernment under priestly direction. God willing, I want to live the priesthood of our High Priest-Victim as you described it. I hope I can live the new evangelization as you and many priests and laypeople have. Your work is a great blessing!
