  • The problem is not the engine.... it's getting the right fuel/air/advance settings for an ITB equipped engine. It's pretty difficult to place an Idle-Air-Control-Valve with ITB's. Sadly, I don't know anyone in Europe who's done this. Try the Pelican Parts website?

  • Still hard to start when it's below freezing. But once fired up, she runs like a kitten!

  • Cold starts can be pretty rough. I backdated my heater controls and installed a hand-throttle lever. Now I can set the idle higher until things warm up. It takes much more priming to get it to start when the temperature drops below 50degF.

  • I experienced no low speed drivability or loss of low-end torque. And any noise can be easily quelled by your choice of air filter. I now run a modified 1971 Air-box. Nice and quiet.

Mind you, I’m now running M&K sport mufflers. Now that’s loud!

Contact Richard Clewett (Clewett Engineering).. He’ll steer you right.

  • Love the set up, I'm either gonna do itb's or boost not sure yet. Do you know what power your making now...check out my dyno video!

  • Not sure what HP she's making, haven't been to the dyno yet.. perhaps in the spring. I do know that she's faster than before with much better throttle response.

  • Will it be the same with a 993 engine?

Maybe by chance you know someone doing these conversions in LHD europe, where I actually live (and often freeze below -20)

  • Amazing car!

    How is she now?

    When cold?

  • @kellzsanator When I heard that I thought WTF???

  • Thanks for answering my previous question. I was also wondering how you got such smooth start-up... I am told that cold starts with ITBs require keeping the throttle slightly open for 30ish seconds. Is it the case with your car as well?

  • Hi there - I hope you still read this. I am considering installing ITBs on my 1996 varioram engine. My main concerns relate to low end torque and noise when cruising around town or on the highway. Could you please comment on these two issues?

I am well aware that low end torque will be somewhat compromised, but how is drivability (say in a parking lot)?

    Thanks
