Great video! I'm a life long martial arts student. I've studied Kempo for many years, but I've always found Japanese martial arts, especially Karate-Do fascinating. There is something to learn by the "simplicity" that Karate-Do demonstrates. It takes out all the "fancy" stuff and keeps the solid core of martial arts-it remains raw, pure, powerful and effective. It reminds me of the saying "Less is More". Very Inspiring.

Well done indeed! It is interesting to note that a few of the 1955 pictures are of and from Tomosaburo Okano and the KenKoJuku Dojo - OSS!!

@KendoWaza Sir
Great video on one of Okinawa's great Martial Arts master. In the video is stated Mr. Funakoshi changed the name of Karate (or Tang/Chinese Hand) to Karate (empty hand) but he was a part of a group of Okinawan Karate Masters; Mr. Chojun Miyagi, Mr. Choshin Chibana, Mr. Chomo Hanashiro and others who thought it would be help with the promotion of their art to mainland Japan if the meaning of the kanji/plus the kanji was changed. Thank you for sharing this video. Osu

Thank you for this documented slideshow on Funakoshi O Sensei. At age 40 and on the verge of earning my black belt in Shotokan, I had begun to feel wistful about not starting karate earlier in my life. But your video reminded me that Funakoshi moved to Japan at age 54 and that karate-do is a lifetime commitment from when you start, whenever you start. Arigato gozaimasu.
