Poisoncut - Starfighter 104. High Quality download available from Bandcamp: http://poisoncut.bandcamp.com/track/starfighter-104

Chip tune created in milky tracker. I was going for an 8-bit spaceship kind of feel with this one.

  • A truly fantastic song! You couldnt upload and pm me the sample of the bass in the backround could you :D

  • @killerbanjo Thanks! I could, but it's really easy to make. It's just a square wave with the edges slightly angled. If you use milky tracker you can create a new sample and just draw the shape in.

  • @subrec90 Thanks for the tip... after a few months of dabbling i now have milkytracker more or less sorted out tech wise but i cannot think of a good tune for the life of me :V I play banjo so trying to write a chip tune is a big change for me... Could you give me some help? I wan't to know about "Layers" of a tune. Such as drums, bass etc... How many layers do you have? How many intruments do you have in 1 song? And how you write... starting with a drum beat or melody?

    Thanks! Ed.

  • @killerbanjo It's different for each song but when using milky tracker i'd normally create a few different instruments, use for one for bass, one for lead and another set for some background arpegios and things like that. I also create a few waveforms for drums and effects, white noise is good for cymbal sounds.

A good way to learn about layers would be to download some modules and look at how they are made, try muting and soloing channels to hear the different layers. Check out the modarchive

  • This song is fucking awesome. Thanks for making this!
