This was right in the middle of the trip. About day three. We were already in Cabo.

Honostly I don't remember if you can use cash or not. I don't see why not, but it is easier to just use the card. The best thing to do is to set up a cash account. Instead of having your account linked to your credit card, you set up a cash account where you give them a set amount of money ahead of time (Say $500) and then use your boarding pass the same way. That way, you don't have to worry about going over, it will not work after you have gone though the set amount, but you can add more later

As far as things being expensive. Yes and No. Its just as expensive as any other gift shop anywhere else. Be careful though. Its really easy to spend money at the gift shops, because you don't use cash, you use your boarding pass like a credit card. You get billed at the end.
