I'm very surprised they didn't mention the most serious health issue for the breed. Rage Syndrome is a neurological disorder related to epilepsy, which causes the dog to have explosive seizure-like episodes of aggression. Many dogs suffering from this condition have to be euthanized. Solid colored Cocker Spaniels are more prone to the condition, especially dogs with black coats. So definitely ask plenty of questions before bringing a dog home, to avoid the heartache of losing your dog.

I'm thinking of adopting a cocker/clumber and something else mix from a local shelter, can't wait!

Great video- it concisely states the basics anyone should know before adopting a cocker spaniel. As far as I know, the information is correct, because my dog (well my parents') is wonderful- and yeah she is useless for a guard dog because she just LOVES strangers! I miss her so much and wish my family was closer by.

@hardkore76 Why people are hating on breeders is because there are SO many dogs out there. Very good animals are dying just because no one wants them. People want fancy dogs that are purebred, when a purebred dog could have tons more health problems than the mutt in a shelter. These dogs deserve a chance at life too, but irresponsible people over populating (whether on they mean to or not) they are put down. I have worked in a shelter and it breaks my heart to euthanize for space.

@XxToxicWerewolfXx just the american cocker spaniel
@ellementira I have gotten dogs from both shelters and breeders. Loved them all to bits, but it's not a crime to want to purchase your dog from a reputable breeder. My cocker that I rescued from an un-known background had major eye problems that led to the eventual removal of both eyes. Had he been purchased from a good breeder we may have avoided that heartache.I am on a waiting list for a cocker puppy that will not be born for another 6 months with excellent breeding. Dont hate on breeders

@FiestyCat86 yup I agree, and I have no issues with adopting as I said in my other post I have adopted MANY not only dogs but cats from shelters. BUT just saying there are alot of great responsible breeders out there that work hard to better the breeds . And should someone choose to go the route of a breeder when aquiring a dog for whatever their own personal reasons, they shouldn't be made to feel guilty or ashamed of their choice for doing so.
