After months of preparation, Dave and Al have finally completed and flight tested the electric microlight! This video shows the first two flights ever.

Big thanks to Randall Fishman for the inspiration for this project! Check out Electraflyer http://www.electraflyer.com for more info.

  • Is it possible to have an electric generator integrated into the propeller to recharge the battery as you fly?

  • How about a motor powered only by magnets? Check out the video on Metcafe! Problem is that magnet motors will spin until they blow apart with no load on them. Now if you use a 4:1 gear reduction and adj prop, hmmmm.

  • LkOutMtnMan - our motor IS powered only by magnets - electromagnets :)

  • Is it possible to have an electric generator on board? Yes. Would it be useful? No. You always loose energy; from friction with the air, heat in the engine, friction in a generator, potential energy as you gain altitude e.g. if you were to start with 100% battery and fly to 1000ft, then switch to a generator, you would have to steal energy from the aircraft (slow it down) to charge the battery, eventually you would be on the ground again with 80%(eg) power in the battery

  • If you were going to have a glider this is what you would need it's silent.Well when your gliding & then you can climb up to hight great stuff.

  • "Clear Prop!" HAHA i know its the safe and right thing to do, but it is funny watching it when there is only 1 person around and they are holding a camera 100' away! Nice vid, thumbs up!

  • @djbarcode5xyz To recharge, would the prop not have to work in reverse? It might be as inefficient as putting the prop on back to front. Or like an flat-bottomed wing flying up side down.

  • Fantastic! Congratulations gentleman!

  • Top work guys!!! Does it class as a nanolight???

  • Putting Hobart on the aviation map. Well done chaps.

  • that was very great

  • @lepermunna even the sun is gonna run out, i dont think thats what he meant

  • @PhobiaGuy "Sh's gunna go like buggery mate".Translated to English: "I'm sure your aircraft will perform within highly desirable parameters,my esteemed colleague" American:"Yo mutherfucker'.

  • are you using A123 type life cells? what controller and what motor/prop?
