Seen these guys a few times in Memphis- simply amazing.
Their grooves fall apart at those tempos because the guitar player isn't quite up to picking rhythm that fast.
No disrespect though, he's very good; better than most. He's just always fighting to keep up with Ron and Joe. (who wouldn't be?)
Also, the slapback effect he uses starts sounding like mush unless the playing is near to perfect, so that isn't helping matters.
I don't think it ruins the sound any more than a camera's mic does-

sometimes they play the songs so god-damn fast...to the point where the song loses its groove and soul.
