It's funny because God doesn't exist.

I LOVE this episode.

Really get to see how invested Bartlet is as president.

I love all the allusion in this to his dad.

"What was Josh Lyman? A warning shot? That was my son."

That line just speaks volumes about him as a character.

It's almost like he's talking to his dad asking why can't I ever live up to you? Do I deserve what's happening to me because I've displeased you in some way?

He just gets fed up with it.

He's finally telling off his dad in this scene.

Anyone else noticed that they sealed the cathedral a little too fast? Considering where the First Lady was standing and the other people at the main entrance, Leo's position, and where the Secret Service would have been? It basically took 7 secs when it probably should have taken maybe 15 at least for Leo to relay the request to the agents before they ask people to leave and close the doors.

basically his reaction to death is one that many people experience, bartlett decides that since God is all powerful there is no way that He is also all loving. when He says "Am i to believe that things things are acts from a righteous God, a just God, a wise God?" he is questioning God's authority. also when he speaks of being His servant on earth, he forgets we can not get into heaven by good works, only through Christ.

But President Bartlet is Catholic, so the teaching is that one is judged by one's good works...or at least thats how I remember it. What good is it to acknowledge Christ but do no good works, then even a hermit can enter into heaven. IMHO, Christ manifests himself through our good works. Bartlett has done good works, praised God and yet experienced tragedy and loss, "Haec credam a deo pio, a deo justo, a deo scito?" If so, then I say "Cruciatus in crucem, eas in crucem "

Thank you, Lord.
Am I to believe these things from a righteous god, a just god, a wise god?
To the cross with your punishments!
I was your servant, your messenger on the earth; I did my duty.
To the cross with your punishments!
And to the cross with you

Hoynes is the vice president. Basically, jed is deciding he'll reject god and go to hell, but is saying god will get hoynes in heaven anyway.
