Note the night vision ,really a infrared lamp with periscopic coupling.this apparatus was used during the defence of berlin .some grenadairs also had similar attachements on their mp44-stg43 but a minature version.

Just take a look at the infrared night vision optics it has for the commander. What an awesome and advanced tank the Panther was!
