Mixing potassium chlorate, sugar, and a drop of sulfuric acid produces a violent reaction that burns with a bright purple flame. Read about this and other experiments at www.madphysics.com

  • cool video. what is the ratio of potassium chlorate to sugar to sulfuric acid?

  • KClO3 to sugar was about 50/50 (though you can play with this), then just a few drops of acid are enough. Be very careful though: gloves, goggles, ventilation, and fire extinguishers are all crucial.

  • Did you really have to hold the whole reagent bottle? Perhaps a more remote method of ignition would be appropriate. Awesome vid still.

  • sounds more like chemical experiments than fhysic xD. I know sciences are next each other. '-' ( sorry if i commited any errors in grammar, my english is bad D= )

  • that was awesome !

  • @Olao999 No but if you dissolve potassium chloride in water and run a current through it for a couple days you will end up with potassium chlorate

  • "+drop of sulphuric acid" why I do science =D

  • @2706588 you can just use a fuse instead of H2SO4.

  • Can i turn potassium chloride to potassium chlorate using hidrogen perioxide?

  • Is that was a glass cup???

  • this is chemistry, not physics

  • For science! xD
