What is the model number of the metal detecor?

I know meteorites are not all the same, but in general, how much per gram do Gold Basin meteorites sell for?

great video!

Hunting with a magnet is a good idea, however, there is a large deposit or magnetite and hematite so there would be a majority of that sticking to the magnet. A magnet cane usually works better for the dry lakes and that's when I use it. Thanks for viewing. Jay

Why dont you get a large magnet on a stick and sweep it across the area and see what sticks to it?

Yeah it was a good time, fun in such a small area too. The best was when I would look in one direction and see one, then in a different and another, and on and on. A good day indeed! Jay

Since the strewn field was discovered on 1999, the price has come way down. The price is dictated by the total amount found, and the rarity. Kilos have been found down there, and continue to be found, and it's an ordinary chondrite, so about .25 to .35 per gram. But then again, depends on what someone will pay for it too. Thanks for watching.

If you are looking for for easy times, just getting started, try some of the nearby dry lake beds. Carry a magnet cane (stick with a rare earth magnet on the end of it) and start walking, touching all rocks that you see. Keep them and sort them after the fact. Or you can try your luck with the Wickenburg Meteorite. I'm not sure on the exact location, but with some research, I'm sure you will find the general area. Good luck hunting. Jay

Also, get acquainted with the characteristics of meteorites, so you know what to look for and can ID them in the field. The I-net is a good resource, and also the book, Rocks from Space, Falling Stars, Robert Haag Collection of Meteorites, and the Field Guide to Meteorites. Again, good luck!!!

how often do you go to gold besin?
Iseekoutthetruth 2 years ago
Usually during the fall and winter months, about every other weekend depending on the weather. During the summer, maybe once or twice, but the heat is really unbearable. Plus all the "critters" come out in the summer and I sway away from them as much as possible. Thanks for viewing. Jay
