To coincide with Australia's annual celebration of community, Neighbour Day, and the 25th anniversary episode of Neighbours [18.03.1985], a week long story arc was woven in to the show.
In this compile, from episode bloc 5886-5890 first screened on Network Ten, Australia w/c 22.03.2010 [Five, United Kingdom w/c 10.05.10], plans are made for the first Neighbour Day Festival at the Lassiters complex.
The episodes carefully replicate actual Neighbour Day activities organised by residents all around Australia for the final Sunday in March with the encouragement to 'Celebrate Your Community'. Neighbour Day was founded in Melbourne in 2003 after an elderly woman was discovered to have passed away in her home but was not noticed missing until two years later.
Featuring key performances by Stefan Dennis, Jane Hall, James Sorenson, Jordan Smith and Carla Bonner the residents of Ramsay Street and Erinsborough prepare for a day of entertainment, food, music and fun before a night time fireworks spectacular erupts over their suburb.
As Neighbour Day founder Andrew Heslop says - 'Our communities are only as strong as the people who live in them'.
