This is my 1961 Evinrude Fisherman 5.5 hp outboard. This is my second one of this type and they really are great running motors. This one runs better than it looks and I wish I would have repainted it when i had it. These 5.5 motors are quite possibly the most bullet proof motors built they may not be the fastest but they will never let you down.

  • I got given one of these and it goes great, except it has no prop! Anyone there in the US point me in the right direction to locate a 2nd hand one?

  • @warwickwas Try ebay or post a wanted ad on aomci.org

  • I have this exact same motor. I have been having trouble with it staying running. It will go for about a minute in forward and then bogg down and die on me. It does fine in neutral, but not in drive. Any idea what could be going on? thanks.

  • @itfliesitdies123 Check the ignition make sure the coils aren't cracked and clean and set the points, if it still acts up invest in a rebuild kit for the carb.

  • what fuel oil ratio do you use

  • @longhornation I run my motors on a 24:1 ratio, some people run theirs on 16:1.

  • @embilongus u need to take the powerhead of and there will be a shift linkange holding it from sliding down

  • @deerein15 This was my 2nd Evinrude and it's my GF's favorite. Quiet, smooth running, and easy to start, there's a reason why OMC made them from 1954 to 1964 and only made slight changes to them that whole time.

  • I just found this exact motor in my grandpa's shop. It had been sitting on its side for over 14 years! I replaced the old fuel hose and it started right up. I now run it on the lake all the time and it is a first pull engine. Slow for sure, but I love it!
