In the 1974 timeframe, the Funston training bowl was a hot spot for learning how to fly. The gliders has less L/D and the possibility for a surf landing was remote. Today the training bowl is still open, however, extreme caution must be used to insure you TURN! If you don't turn you can land in the surf and die.
Thanks for posting that. I flew the Chandelle in 1974 and the Sunbird Strato I think in 1976 here in Washington Mount Erie, Iron and Dog and eventually Chelan Airport and the Butte. It was greta seeing the Sunbird again!
