  • I'd give anything to have the original hypercard version of Myst. THAT was the best on a Mac LC with a 40MB hard drive, a whopping 1MB or RAM and a 384x512 pixel monitor. You can get the Macintosh 256-color version of Myst to work on a new Mac with any universal copy of OS7 to OS9.0.4 (not 9.1 or 9.2.2) installed in the classic emulator called SheepShaver. I'm running it under Snow Leopard on a MacPro.. Just heaven.

  • @foodandart Yup I did exactly that, and now I have updated footage of the mac version entitled "Myst Mac Version Leisurely Play Through" with 8 parts to boot.

  • So the aim of your video is what ? Mac version is better than pc version ? I've played this game on pc and never had all the things you've shown, I don't see what you're trying to do here

  • @chnebierk System 7 at the time was far more advanced and perfected for average joes than was that of Windows 3x.

Myst is a perfect showcase of the power of Apples in 91

  • Interesting...although, it seems like this is more of an "old versus new" comparison than a console to console comparison. Myst was a PC game before it was a Mac game, so I figure they would have taken some buggs out and buffed some things up for the Mac version when they set out to make it, especially in regards to the navigation animations, because I remember them looking much the same in the PC verison of Riven.

  • Myst was developed on the Mac, and wasn't until about 94,95 I think when it was available for the PC.

But the limitation was only one sound could be played at a time, so many music and sound effects had to be mixed together, as this took up more code space, some songs had to be shortened.

Plus, Riven and Exile were both available for the mac at the same release date.

  • @narcomanic you are right it doesn't i've tried it myself :( *sobs*

  • @Compwhiz128 I played it on windows 95 and so the point of your video is to show that Mac was more powerful ?? How interesting...

  • did you set the slow transition on the pc version?

  • 3:17 : I think they forgot to remove the green screen and to add the effects to the video on the Mac version. If so : Fail

  • If Id get permission I'd remake Myst Island, eventually the whole game on Unreal Engine 3, extremely powerful 3d engine

i have wrote Robyn Miller, but didn't get any answer (yet).

I love Myst and played it with 10years, about 1995 on a Power Mac, playing frequently since and absolutely obsessed.

I use Unreal Engine since 10 years and would love to recreate Myst island In the most living, breathing detail possible. Like 10 weather types, smooth transitions, real

    Maybe you can support me
