Black Sabbath played their first shows behind the rusting Iron Curtain in November and December 1989. I want to say they played 8 shows in both Moscow and Leningrad (2 a day for 4 days straight). As far as I know, only two of the shows were recorded, both on the same date (11/25/1989) one being done in the afternoon and the other in the evening. Must of been hell for Tony Martin's voice.

Anyway, for at least one of the shows, Iommi played "Apache". Supposedly he had played it a couple times during the "Born Again" tour in the States but it has yet to turn up on any recording. This is the only recorded live example known at the current time. Had I decided to make my 200th audio a Sabbath audio, this would have been my pick. Lizzy fans should expect something of this caliber as the 200th video when I get around to posting it in a week.

Anyway, enjoy!

  • I just bought dvd which was recorded in November 19th 1989 in Moscow, it is awesome!

  • I see that 11/19 date on a lot of bootlegs for this show, but Neil Murray was quite sure that the the Moscow shows recorded for DVD were on 11/25. Black Sabbath Live mentions this as well. I sort of wish it would get straightened out once and for all.

The DVD is quite good though, I've seen it.

  • I think someone needs to switch the Dansette from 78 to 33rpm...

  • @sakke72 That recording is definitely not from 1989. Dio wasn´t in the band at that time. It´s either from the early 1980s or from the early 1990s. End of story.

  • Who is playing the organ in the background???

  • @blacksabfan IT is aweosme the versions of Paranoid, When Death Calls and Headless cross are just awesome, Iommi Martin and geezer should do a headless cross reunion tour playing just martins songs.

  • @mrHatmore Tony Martin

  • Very nice!!!!

This sounds like Ennio Morricone tune from some Sergio Leone movie.

  • It s a little too slow.

The original is much faster as is the version on the tribute album. This just lags too much. Especially for a live version.

  • Awesome
