Getting Interstate '76 to run on Windows XP

Credit goes to KoshimaMakake for telling me about this fix, here's his original message:

I just read in the comments to your fun Interstate 76 video that you can't play Interstate 76 on Windows XP. The solution to do it is a bit tricky, but here it is: Go to your "control panel", choose the "classic view" and click on "Sounds and Audio Devices". Here you have to click the "Advanced" Button next to the speakers. Choose the second register tab and set the hardware acceleration to the lowest setting. That should do it, but you have to remember to set it back to maximum for modern games and applications.

I Hope that will help you to hit the road again with Groove and Taurus.

Well could you upload your interstate 76 folder to megaupload I cant find anyway to install the game. The only way I can get it is if I get it from somebody that has the game already installed. So could you upload your game folder to the website so I can play the game directly from the folder u sent so far that's the only way ive seen to play the game.

@addingvids117 I'm not going to upload the entire game to megaupload, I don't even have it installed right now. Really, just try the one from gog.com, it will probably work.

Can u please tell me or make a video on how to install this on windows XP because i ran this in compatibility mode and it didn't work and i also tried regular mode and still didn't work. Please help me.

@addingvids117 Sorry, I haven't used XP in quite a long time now, so I can't really help you out. You might try the version on GOG.com

Fascinating... I've been searching for the details of this fix for years; the last time I inquired I was thrown out of the community for not knowing the details well enough and not groveling for them... so it's good to have it clear-cut now. It's too bad that the fix only comes with the sacrifice of any video quality.

I'm curious... does the problem persist on Windows 7?

@KMallinson I actually haven't had the chance to try the game on either vista or seven, unfortunately. I'm unsure whether the problem persists, or if the fix here would still work if it does persist.

Now if only I could find 1 of the 3 separate copies of I76 I had, and the nitro pack, that I had... somewhere. I do remember getting I76 to work a few years ago once but there was absolutely no one online to play with for months. Same with the original Tribes... and now I want to try Alien vs Predator 2 online again.

And now i'm thinking about reinstalling Omikron. Arg why do good games with insane potential die while we get recycled garbage over and over. Except good ones like Mass Effect.
