The Metro Monthly commemorated National Preservation Month with an architectural walking tour of downtown Youngstown on Wednesday, May 14.
Despite uncertain weather, approximately 40 people attended the tour which
covered the historic architecture of the central business district. The event ended with a public reception at the Core.
Mark C. Peyko, publisher and editor of The Metro Monthly, led the free tour, which covered the history and development of the central business district.
In addition, the tour focused on threatened historic landmarks in the area, including the State and Paramount theaters and the Kress Building.
The architectural tour was presented in memory of local musician and political activist Robert D. Fitzer, who died last year after an extended illness.
I was a clarinet student at YSU and was blessed with countless stories of Youngstown from Mr. Fitzer. Bob would be so happy to know this was taking place. Keep spreading the joys of the city of Youngstown. <3 Brandie
