Andrew Steward -- Beating Mental Illness
"When someone breaks their arm, we rush to sign their cast. When someone is diagnosed with mental illness, we run the other way."
Andrew Steward is a flute performance major at the University of Denver, excelling in school and planning a graduate education. But a chapter of his life included debilitating mental illness and tormenting hallucinations. Andrew bravely pulls mental illness out from under the rug so that we can erase the stigma and focus on helping people who are ill.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
Doctor #1 was wrong. Schizophrenia does have a rather poor prognosis, especially for males under 25, but it's not like no one ever gets better. A lot of the problem is refusing treatment, which you said wasn't a problem! So it really isn't that weird you got better. Also it's not that well known a disease? Like, there's multiple things that are all "schizophrenia" so...Yeah.... But, as someone with schizoaffective, I very much appreciate this video's existence. Thank you.
