The clip is from a 1961 film, entitled "Community of The World". Coke was advertised in 57 Languages at the time. The rest of the film shows clips of Coca-Cola in Germany, Italy, Egypt, India, Singapore, The Philippines, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, The Netherlands, Peru, Uraguay, Colombia, Austria, Lenanon, New Zealand, Denmark, Chile and others.

  • Too bad they didn't use people who really could speak the languages...some of these make you cringe.

  • Not fond of Coca-Cola as a corporate entity, but I like the beverage, always find the history fascinating, and am loving the blog.

    Retro commercials are always fun, but I'm especially amused by the fact that every nationality gets a quaint little stereotype to read off the label... except for the Thai Coke, after which they cut right back to the Americans. I wonder if you'll could dig up any information on why that was -- was it that hard to get a Thai speaker in '61?
