Always interests me that in earlier eras, on par 5s, the common course management strategy adopted by players placed priority on ensuring close proximity to the green on the second shot (as apposed to modern-day 80-100 yard lay-up). I suppose wedges wouldn't yield as much spin, fairways were less well-manicured and greens weren't generally as receptive.
