Of course you can make a homemade roux! You can use a traditional oil-based roux, or powdered roux. By the way, the powdered roux is homemade as well. You can find out how on Real Cajun Cooking - Pure and Simple. Thanks!

Thanks for introducing me to the idea of a powdered roux. Pretty amazing you can get a similar result. Seems you dont use oil because you just add water. Is that right?

Thats right. The results are actually superior in my opinion, because you can add just enough powdered roux to get the exact color and flavor you want. I use this stuff for everything from gumbo to gravy. Thanks for commenting!

Look if you want to cook this then go ahead but that is not real Cajun gumbo and I would know because I am Cajun
